Today, healthcare surveys are based on trust. If the company who runs them says it interviews one thousand doctors or one thousand patients, nobody will be able to check whether it is true. However, if Blockchain technology is applied to them, data transparency, inviolability and security will be ensured. As explained by Sergio Liberatore, General Manager of IQVIA, the application of this new technology to surveys, polls and market investigations, can make the companies who work in the sector gain more reliability.

That’s why IQVIA, a global provider that deals with data, technological innovation, clinical research and strategic advice and a leader in the field of healthcare market investigations, is willing to conclude a partnership with Consulcesi Tech and make such hypothesis real. «By applying the Blockchain to this sector, we can confirm the quality of what we do and raise competitiveness», Mr Liberatore said at the end of the meeting that has recently taken place at the Italian Senate, dedicated to the possible applications of the Blockchain in the healthcare industry.

Among them, there are thousands of useful applications for the pharmaceutical industry, that can make the sector more qualified and keep it up with the times: «Clinical research – he explained -, clinical trials, the whole sector of devices that are implanted in human bodies without being sure about their origins are only some examples. But, most of all, it can be really helpful to check the whole supply chain of pharmaceutical products, by ensuring the healthcare system about the security and effectiveness of the medicines we find on the territory».

The fight against counterfeit drugs is in fact one of the most important challenge that the pharmaceutical industry must face. «According to European sources – Sergio Liberatore said -, we estimate that 17 billion euros and 90,000 jobs are lost because of fake drugs. Only in Italy, we are dealing with 2 billion euros and 10,000 jobs lost. And in Europe 2 billion euros of tax evasion are related to this phenomenon. It is an economic problem, a social problem and a health problem, because a not certified medicine can be very dangerous for the health of those who take it».
A phenomenon that the Blockchain can therefore help to fight. And Italy might play an important role in this sector: «My dream – Liberatore said – is to set up a Blockchain-based project against counterfeit drugs, and then export it to other European countries. It would be a very important and ambitious project for Italy».
