U.S., 12 Russian spies identified thanks to bitcoin
People think bitcoin makes your transactions anonymous. As reported by William Turton on Vice, U.S. law enforcement used the blockchain to track down and identify 12 suspected Russian spies through their cryptocurrency transactions.
A blockchain developer even traced bitcoin purchases back to Russia’s intelligence agency, the GRU, using only public information.Who sells bitcoins generally requires some personal information: during the investigation, law enforcement can ask data to associate real people with virtual operations.
