Microsoft unveiled a project that, using the blockchain, would give users control of their own credentials. Gregory Barber (Wired) explains that digital identity is one of the most tantalizing potential uses for the technology. It would be a boon for privacy, because no one could follow activity of other people around the internet. Furthermore, it would help curb major leaks and hacks, since large pools of user data would be less likely to be stored in one place.
